Registration is handled through Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Follow the instructions below to sign up.

Meet Your Instructor

Arielle Basha is the first calligraphy instructor to teach at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. She has been teaching calligraphy to beginners for over 5 years to nearly 1000 students.

Introduction to Modern Calligraphy with a Pointed Pen

A four-week workshop for beginners covering tools, strokes, letterforms, and connecting words. You’ll leave confident to continue practicing at home.

This is for you if: 

You’re brand new to calligraphy and want a strong foundation.

Description: Introduction to Calligraphy welcomes you to the art of writing. During this 4-week course, you’ll learn how to use a pen and nib, create the basic strokes that make up letterforms, and perform drills that improve consistency and even your handwriting. By the end, you’ll write in a classic modern calligraphy style.

When:

        Mondays, 6–8 pm

  • Session 1: September 8 – 29

  • Session 2: October 20 – November 10
     

Price: $90

Introduction to Copperplate Calligraphy

A six-week deep dive into Copperplate, the most well-known traditional calligraphy style.

Learn advanced nib techniques, hairlines, swells, and structured letterforms.

This is for you if: 

You already have experience with a dip pen and want to learn a structured, traditional script.

Description: Invented in the 17th century, Copperplate was originally engraved into copper plates. In this 6-week course, you’ll learn basic strokes, letterforms, and how to connect them into words. A basic knowledge of using a dip pen and nib is recommended. The supply list will be provided after completing registration. 

When:

        Tuesdays, 6–8 pm

  • Session: September 9 – October 14

Next Steps in Calligraphy

A four-week course designed to strengthen your pointed pen skills through guided drills, feedback, and new techniques.

This is for you if: 

You’ve taken a beginner class but want to refine and expand your skills.

Description: Have you taken a beginner class in calligraphy but don’t know what to do next? In this 4-week workshop, we’ll deepen your skills with nib manipulation, spacing, shapes, and a lesson in flourishing with examples and exercises. This is a great follow-up to the Introduction to Calligraphy course.

When:

        Tuesdays, 6–8 pm

  • Session: October 20 – November 10
